Cal Powers Country

Even though Calvin Powers has been singing for more than 60 years, his is not a name you are going to see on the country charts today. However, back in the 60's, his song Too Many Teardrops went to #5 in a tri-state area. The song had a good B side (My Reason For Living Is You). Both of these songs were recorded in 1960 right after he sang on the Friday Night Opry at the Ernest Tubb Record Shop in Nashville, Tennessee.

Back in the good 'ol days, Calvin worked full time in country music. In the 70's he was opening shows for such stars as Stella Parton (Dolly’s sister) and also for Micky Gilley, Carl Perkins and Mel Tillis.

Calvin enjoys traditional country songs, but he also has a great love for southern Gospel music and has 3 Gospel CD's to his credits. It was in the 80's and 90's that Calvin began performing Southern Gospel music. His first CD, Testimony of Love, is his favorite. Next was Calvin Powers and Friends sing Cajun Country Hymns, with old favorites such as I’ll Fly Away, Amazing Grace, and How Great Thou Art. The third CD was Calvin Powers And Friends Sing Country Gospel. He also has a collection of Songs written by the award-winning Hinson Family.

Calvin spent the years of 2001 and 2002 singing in Pigeon Forge at the Oldies Show Place Café, as well as numerous appearances at Fairs and Jubilees throughout Tennessee.
